Teaching Team

  Lisa Freeman - Head Teacher
I have my Bachelor of Education – Early Years and I am fully registered. I have been part of Tui since 2006. I took a year’s maternity leave when I had my daughter and joined Tui 3 in 2010 where I then became Head Teacher in 2015. I am a bit of a goof ball and bring my sense of fun into my teaching, I enjoy showing children that grown ups can have fun in their work and express their individuality.

Fiona Thornburrow - Qualified Registered Teacher
I have my Bachelor of Education (teaching) in ECE and I am fully registered. I have been working at Tui 3 since 2008, taking a 7mth break for maternity leave in 2011. I enjoy carrying out the project approach with this age group and learn something new every time.  I also enjoy seeing how children grow and develop during their time with us at Tui 3.

Megan Mullan - Qualified Registered Teacher
I have my Bachelor of Teaching in ECE and I have completed my teacher registration process. I have been part of Tui for a long time, starting as a student in 2012, relieving for 2 years and then working full time at Tui 3 since Nov 2016. I am a big kid at heart and love to get stuck in with the children, playing alongside them and sharing in their fun and laughter.

Bianca Kumeroa - Teacher in Training
I am originally from Taranaki, making the wise decision to move to Palmerston North in 2015 to pursue my career in teaching. I started out as a reliever at all Tui centres at the end of 2015, have been a permanent student teacher with Tui 3 since 2016. A bit about myself, I am fluent in three languages – sign language, Te Reo Māori and English. I do enjoy a good laugh and often you would hear my laugh before you see me. I am passionate about bringing Te Reo Māori into Tui 3.

Maha Akeela - Qualified Registered Teacher
I have my Bachelor of Education in Early Years from birth to eight at Massey University College of Education and I am fully registered. I have been working with children since 2000, first as a caregiver through kid start for ten years then as a teacher at Montessori preschool for two years. I have been working at Tui Early Learners since 2011. My special passion in early childhood is working with young children while helping them to develop, learn and reach their full potential.

Chloe Drummond - Qualified Registered Primary Teacher
I joined the team at Tui in April 2018 after moving back to the Manawatu from the Waikato.

 Emma Smith - Teacher Aide
I have lived in Palmerston North my whole life and began relieving with Tui at the start of 2018. I also started my Degree at Massey University in February 2018 doing a Bachelor of Arts with a major in sociology but decided to leave after completing a semester there as I fell in love with teaching. I intend to apply at Te Rito Maioha to start my degree in a Bachelor of Education in 2019. I really enjoy getting involved with the children and encouraging them to be creative with arts/crafts and play.
